ABOUT ROOTED STRATEGIES NM

ABOUT EMILY

Emily Arasim Beltrán is a farmer, educator, and community planner from Northern New Mexico. Born and raised in Tesuque, she now lives, works and farms with her family in the Pojoaque and Española Valleys. She is dedicated to building community health and well-being through projects that center and respect land-based knowledge, environmental justice, and the needs of our young people.

In 2025, Emily launched her small business, Rooted Strategies NM, LLC. Her intention is to use her love of organizing and planning, eye for detail, and knack for asking critical questions to help local community groups and organizations deepen and grow their critical work. She also sits on the board of the New Mexico Resiliency Alliance and the Northern Youth Project, and keeps herself rooted by farming with her family and elders.

From 2018-2025 she worked for the New Mexico Acequia Association in a variety of positions, including coordinating the food, farms and seed program; managing the youth education program; and contributing to outreach and communications with acequia communities across the state. Other past work has included roles with the Environmental and Economic Justice Leadership Team at Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge, the South Central Climate Adaptation Center, the Northern Youth Project, Communities for Clean Water, and the Women’s Earth and Climate Network

Emily holds a Masters Degree in Community and Regional Planning from the University of New Mexico, with concentrations in community development and natural resource planning. As a part of her studies, she spent three years conducting research and writing a handbook on the history and importance of rural grocery stores across Northern New Mexico, and practical strategies for their protection and revitalization.
